In every country and most communities across the world, the opportunities offered to a new-born child are based on the luck of the draw, predetermined before birth and perpetuated by inequality and lack of services.
Eight years ago, world leaders set a target that every girl and boy should have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so they are prepared for primary school by 2030.
Yet today more than half of the world¹ú²úÊÓƵ™s children (350 million) don¹ú²úÊÓƵ™t have access to the childcare they need. And about half of pre-primary aged children aren¹ú²úÊÓƵ™t enrolled in any form of early education.
This report looks at why the early years matter and makes the case for investment and calls for a global movement to ensure every child has the best start in life.
