Multi Community Based Development Initiative

For many children and young people living with HIV, mental health challenges can make it harder to stay healthy, attend听school听and reach their full potential.听

The Mental Health Intervention Integration for Better Outcomes (MHIBO)听programme听helps students in Uganda access the support they need by combining mental health care, counselling and peer support with education and HIV services. Teachers and health workers work closely with young people to support their wellbeing,听treatment听and learning.听

The听programme听also trains educators and healthcare professionals, creates peer mentoring听opportunities听and works with communities to tackle the social and economic factors that can affect mental health.听

By helping young people feel supported,听valued听and understood, MHIBO is reducing stigma, improving school听attendance听and creating better opportunities for children and adolescents living with HIV.
